How to identify a replacement caravan or motorhome vanity sink

Caravan Panels · Buying guide

Finding the right replacement vanity sink for your caravan or motorhome starts with the basin already fitted. Compare its shape, measurements, waste position and tap arrangement before ordering, rather than relying on the vehicle badge alone.

Whether you are replacing a cracked basin or refreshing a tired washroom, use this guide to build a shortlist from our Caravan Sinks and Motorhome Sinks. This is an identification and buying guide, not a removal or installation manual.

The quick rule: a similar-looking sink or matching manufacturer is a starting point, not proof of fit. Check the complete outline, mounting arrangement, waste and tap positions, and the space beneath the basin.

1. Record your caravan or motorhome details

Note the vehicle manufacturer, exact model, year and washroom layout. If an existing sink reference or moulded part number is safely visible, record it too. Mention whether the basin forms part of a larger vanity top or sits in a separate worktop.

Start with the collection for your vehicle type, then compare individual products. Do not assume every caravan or motorhome from the same brand uses the same basin. A listing number such as “009” is a product reference, not confirmation of a particular vehicle model or year.

2. Measure the basin, not just the visible bowl

Record measurements in millimetres on a simple sketch. Choose a fixed viewing direction, such as standing in front of the vanity unit, and label the wall side, front edge, left and right. Use the same orientation for your photos and comparisons.

  • Overall width and front-to-back depth: measure the outer edges, including the rim, tap ledge or integral countertop. Record the widest points of an irregular shape.
  • Internal bowl dimensions: record the usable bowl opening separately. Do not compare an internal bowl measurement with a product's overall size.
  • Bowl depth and underside projection: note the accessible depth and how far the basin projects below the top. Mark anything hidden as unconfirmed.
  • Rim, ledge and upstand: record accessible rim widths, rear tap ledges, raised edges and any moulded splashback.
  • Outline: sketch curved corners, angled sides, recesses and cut-outs. Note any difference between left and right.
  • Worktop opening: if safely accessible, record the existing cut-out separately from the overall basin dimensions. If the fitted rim conceals it, do not guess.
  • Available space: check surrounding walls, cupboard doors, drawers and any fold-away mechanism or fittings that could affect use or installation.

Measure only what you can reach safely without loosening the sink, disturbing sealant or disconnecting plumbing. Product photographs help compare shapes but are not scale drawings. Ask how to confirm any critical hidden dimension before dismantling the washroom.

3. Match the waste opening and plumbing clearance

Record the waste opening's centre position from two labelled outer edges. Note the visible opening diameter where accessible, and explain if the existing fitting hides the actual hole. Photograph any overflow opening and record whether the current basin has one.

A basin with a similar outline may have a different waste position or underside depth. Check that the proposed waste fitting, trap and pipe connection have enough room inside the vanity unit. Do not assume the old waste fitting will transfer, or that a waste fitting, plug, trap or pipework is included with the replacement.

4. Check the tap arrangement

Note whether your tap is mounted on the sink, through a separate worktop or on the wall. For existing sink-mounted taps, record the number of holes, their accessible diameters and centre positions. With more than one hole, measure centre-to-centre spacing and show it on your sketch.

Compare the tap ledge and the clearance around the tap as well as the bowl. Check that the chosen tap arrangement is compatible with the replacement basin. Do not assume a new sink arrives pre-drilled or that a tap is supplied unless the product listing confirms it.

5. Confirm mounting, material and finish

Compare how the existing basin sits in or on the vanity unit and how the replacement is intended to be mounted. An integral basin-and-top is not automatically interchangeable with a separate inset basin, even when the bowl looks similar.

Read the individual listing for the stated material, colour, dimensions and whether the part is an original or aftermarket replacement. Do not assume every sink in a brand collection has the same construction. If colour matching is important, ask about the particular finish rather than judging it solely from a screen.

Resolve any questions about mounting surfaces, support and sealing before fitting. If the old basin has cracked or leaked, have a competent installer check the surrounding unit and underlying cause rather than assuming replacement alone will fix it.

6. Ask before trimming or drilling

Do not cut, trim or drill a replacement basin simply because it appears to have spare material around the edge. Alterations are product-specific. Before buying a sink that needs changes, confirm whether alteration is permitted, where it can be made and whether it affects mounting, strength or sealing.

Ask for the chosen sink's fitting and care guidance, including suitable sealing and cleaning products. Check the fit and condition before making irreversible alterations.

7. Take photos that help identify the sink

Take a full view of the washroom and vanity unit, a view of the complete basin from above where possible, and closer photographs of the rim, corners, waste opening and tap area. Include safely accessible underside views and any part reference. Send written measurements as well as photos with a tape measure for context.

If access is restricted, tell us what cannot be measured or photographed. There is no need to remove fittings just to obtain a picture.

Before you order: your sink comparison pack

Keep your caravan or motorhome make, model and year; labelled measurement sketch; clear photos; any existing part reference; and a link to the candidate sink together. Add specific questions about the outer shape, mounting, waste, tap holes, underside clearance and supplied fittings.

Contact Caravan Panels with these details if you need help narrowing down the options. A product photograph or vehicle name alone is not enough to confirm compatibility.
